Robots as cognitive tools: Information theoretic analysis of sensory(-motor) data

چکیده
Over the last decade-or-so, a number of researchers have suggested a developmental perspective on artificial intelligence and robotics. The ultimate shared goal among them seems to be the idea of bootstrapping high-level cognition through a process in which the agent interacts with a real physical environment over extended periods of time (Kuniyoshi and Berthouze, 1998; Brooks et al., 1999; Metta, 1999; Asada et al., 2000).

Fingerprinting Agent-Environment Interaction Via Information Theory
In this paper, we investigate by means of statistical and information-theoretic measures, to what extent sensory-motor coordinated activity can generate and structure information in the sensory channels of a simulated agent interacting with its surrounding environment. We show how the usage of correlation, entropy, and mutual information can be employed (a) to segment an observed behavior into ...

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of sensory-motor integration intervention on students' self-esteem and mathematical performance with learning disabilities. Method: The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test-post-test design with control group and follow-up stage. The statistical population of this study consisted of male students with learning...
متن کاملTask planning and action coordination in integrated sensor-based robots
AbstructIntelligent robots interact with the real world by employing their advanced sensory mechanisms to perceive their environment, and using their effectors and tools to change the state of their environment. Some of the important capabilities which endow “intelligence” to those robots include, (1) planning, i.e., given a goal, the ability to generate a set of task plans which will lead to a...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Intelligence Quotient, Motor Fitness and Anthropometric Characteristics with Skills Learning Stages in Basketball
Ackerman (1988) states intelligence and motor ability as the two important abilities in three learning stages (cognitive, motor and autonomic) of Fitts and Posner. Therefore, the present study aims at investigating the relationship between Intelligence Quotient (IQ), motor fitness and anthropometric characteristics with basic basketball skills learning stages. The population includes all s...
متن کاملQuantifying patterns of agent-environment interaction
This article explores the assumption that a deeper (quantitative) understanding of the information-theoretic implications of sensory-motor coordination can help endow robots not only with better sensory morphologies, but also with better exploration strategies. Specifically, we investigate by means of statistical and informationtheoretic measures, to what extent sensory-motor coordinated activi...
